Mattresses

Pocket Springs

The pocket spring is at the heart of all our top quality beds. Each spring is placed into its own individual pocket and sewn all around to isolate it from its neighbours, ensuring no roll-together.   All our mattresses are made up of either a one-tier unit, varying from 700 to 1260 springs, or two-tier units, from 1400 to 3000 units.  The top tier absorbs the majority of the weight whilst conforming to the body shape.  The bottom rows resist more gently, adding to the overall support and also the longevity of the mattress.

Optional on some mattresses only:  Our unique zonal edge springing provides extra strength to the sides of the mattress, by applying 2 rows of firmer springs on either side, ensuring no ‘roll off’ or sleep disturbance.

Borders

The majority of our mattresses are side stitched to reinforce and strengthen the borders, thus maintaining no 'roll off' and providing maximum sleeping surface.   Mattresses with 1260 springs or more feature  traditional hand side stitching.  Side Stitching is undertaken by senior craftsmen using traditional long needles and twine to strengthen borders and edges.  The effect on the mattress is quite dramatic preventing the springs from distorting and extending the sleeping area right up to the edge of the bed.

Upholstery

Only the very finest upholstery materials are used in our beds, including resilient polyester, pure cotton felt, pure lambswool, hair and even sumptuous silk, wool and cashmere for sublime comfort.

Divan Base

The fully sprung edge zonal divan base has a unique spring system incorporating two support levels of spring torsion with a higher gauge spring supporting the edge to prevent ‘roll-off’, whilst creating a firm, supportive foundation for the mattress.

All divans are made from solid timber to carry the weight of our sumptuous mattresses and load-bearing joints are screwed and glued by hand for lasting strength.  All divans are mounted on a choice of smooth running castors.  

Fabrics

Millbrook beds are covered with the finest quality Jacquard damask, woven with yarns of natural origin, which are dyed prior to weaving, to ensure that they remain colour fast.  Our damasks are selected for their finest quality and softness of touch.  Their high density ensures that they fully contain the natural upholstery of the mattress throughout its life. Many of our fabrics are even specially treated with the unique Ultra-Fresh® formula to improve hygienic freshness, and hypo-allergenic protection.
